CHAMBER WELCOMES FINALIZATION OF NJ TRANSIT/BOMBARDIER CONTRACT
The North Country Chamber of Commerce is welcoming news that the anticipated $669 million contract by New Jersey Transit with Bombardier Transportation has been signed. The New Jersey Transit board had voted to tentatively award the contract to Bombardier on December 12th, subject to finalization of the contract which has now occurred.
"This would be a major order even if limited to the initial 113 railcars," notes Garry Douglas, North Country Chamber President, "but the contract also provides, as we all hoped, for options that could bring the total order to $3.6 billion. This order is very positive for Bombardier in Plattsburgh, its workforce and its suppliers and is testament to the excellent performance Bombardier has delivered to New Jersey in the past. We congratulate Bombardier and all of its team, we thank New Jersey Transit for their continued confidence in what the North Country produces and we are ready to continue working with Bombardier and our partners to meet their training and other needs going forward.. We also thank Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Senator Charles Schumer who have been continuously supportive in many ways, as have State Senator Betty Little and Assemblyman Billy Jones."
Bombardier Transportation in Plattsburgh is one of more than fifty transportation equipment and aerospace manufacturers attracted to the North Country in recent years, employing more than 9,000 people. The North Country Chamber hosts the North American Center of Excellence for Transportation Equipment (NAmTrans), providing various support services to the regional cluster.
