**Total volumes were reported by only two of the three firms, estimated dollar value was reported by all three.

The estimated dollar value of Canadian natural gas purchased, as indicated by all three companies, increased 12% from 1996 to 1998.

 Methodological Notes:

 Data was obtained through telephone surveys conducted by Yellow Wood Associates, Inc.  All three firms were helpful in providing data for the total volume of natural gas purchased.  The dollar value of the natural gas reflects actual purchase prices for each buyer not an average price per million BTUs.

 Recommendations for Replication:

Response times varied considerably within this sector, however with only three participants keeping clear records is not difficult. Contact should be made directly with the appropriate person within the firm prior to sending the information request. Replicating this indicator should be very straightforward.  Contact information is provided in the Appendix to this report.
