 The estimated dollar value of temporary employment services has declined 78% since 1996. Business conducted with Canadian-owned companies has declined 75% and services to International border businesses are down 94%. This study shows for the first time temporary employment services to Public border-related agencies. Of the four firms that responded in 1996 only three responded in 1998. The estimated amount of business conducted by these firms with Canadian-owned businesses, International border businesses, and Public border related agencies declined 44% from 1996 to 1998. 

 Methodological Note: 

Six of the 10 (60%) temporary employment agencies surveyed responded for the 1998 replication. Five of 7 surveyed firms (57%) responded in 1996.  One firm that participated in the 1996 replication has either gone out of business or is no longer practicing in Clinton County.

The 1996 figures include 1994 data for one firm that was not able to provide exact 1996 data.  This one firm stated that the 1996 figures are no less than the 1994 data.

 Recommendation for Replication:  

Although the dollar values of services for this study have declined, there appears to be significant economic activity in this sector. We have managed to develop trend data and expand the participants of for this sector. Firms readily responded to the information request, replication should be straightforward.
