Overall the sector indicates a 256% increase in business conducted with Canadian and border-related interests from 1994 to 1996. Temporary employment services provided to Canadian-owned businesses increased 575% over the period, while services provided to International border businesses declined by 2%. Methodological Note: a The 1996 figures include 1994 data for one firm that was not able to provide exact 1996 data. This one firm stated that the 1996 figures are no less than the 1994 data. Five of 7 surveyed firms (57%) responded in 1996, compared to 4 of 5 (80%) surveyed temporary employment firms in 1994. The three firms that did respond in 1994 and in 1996 report a 753% increase collectively in business conducted with Canadian and border-related interests over this period. Recommendation for Replication: There appears to be significant economic activity in this sector. Nevertheless, obtaining responses in this sector requires significant effort. The Chamber should secure prior commitments to participate from the major 4 agencies. |
