CHAMBER COMMENDED BY fDi MAGAZINE FOR ROLE WITH NORSK TITANIUM - -
The North Country Chamber of Commerce has received a Commendation from fDi Magazine for its role in securing the selection of Plattsburgh, New York as the location for Norsk Titanium. The recognition follows fDi's recognition of Plattsburgh last spring as one of the Top 10 "Micropolitan Cities of the Future" for foreign direct investment in all of North and South America.
The fDi Strategy Awards specifically recognize successful and innovative approaches to winning foreign direct investment projects around the world. In the category of Expansions, Retentions and Project Wins, the North Country Chamber was one of six economic development organizations singled out for Project Wins. Other commendations in the category included Montreal International, Brisbane Marketing (Australia), and Kingston Economic Development (Ontario).
The North Country Chamber played the lead regional role in the original site selection process more than two years ago by Norsk Titanium, convincing the company that the Plattsburgh area had the capacity to support its workforce, supply chain and other needs. The early site selection team led by the Chamber included the Development Corporation, the North Country Workforce Development Board, Clinton Community College, CV-TEC, Clarkson University, CITEC, the Town of Plattsburgh, Clinton County and other partners.
"To be in such global company once again for our innovative approaches to attracting foreign business is truly gratifying for our entire team, including Sue Matton and Danielle Johnson," states Garry Douglas, Chamber President. "The unique and determined approaches carried out by the Chamber and key partners like TDC are continuing to bring results for our region, and will allow us to support the full implementation of the Norsk project in the year ahead, leading in turn to other additions to our growing transportation equipment and aerospace cluster. Onward and upward!"
