Clarkson University and Clinton Community College form relationship for Advanced Manufacturing

 Potsdam, NY -- Clarkson University, a world leader in advanced materials processing research and STEM education, and Clinton Community College (CCC) and its Institute for Advanced Manufacturing in Plattsburgh, NY, a regional hub for advanced manufacturing education and training programs have joined forces to conduct research pertaining to the use of Additive Manufacturing technologies and to strengthen workforce training and education for regional industries.

 As shared in a ceremony marking the signing of a MOU between the two higher education institutions, Clarkson and CCC will work together in the fields of advanced and innovative manufacturing. A direct partnership is envisioned as CCC designs and tests their manufacturing process to scale up production. This partnership supports training programs designed to invest in the needs of regional industries for workforce development in the field of advanced manufacturing.

 “The North Country is becoming a great destination for employers engaged in advanced manufacturing due to the programs and tools we now have in place to prepare and attract a world-ready workforce, as well as for companies that need to engage in innovation-oriented research using novel advanced materials,” said Anthony G. Collins, President of Clarkson University and Co-Chair of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.  “Clarkson University’s partnership with Clinton Community College is representative of the united public-private collaboration going on throughout the North Country to energize our communities and key manufacturing industries in aerospace, transportation, defense, biotech and energy.”

 Clinton Community College President Ray DiPasquale shared, “Clinton is very pleased to be partnering with President Collins and Clarkson University to support the North Country’s Advanced Manufacturing Institute at Clinton Community College.”

 The IAM will establish a pipeline of education opportunities and programs to strengthen industry in our area. Through expanding existing workforce programs at Clinton Community College and collaborating with Clarkson on relevant advanced degrees and local high schools implementing a Pathways to Technology Early College High School, the IAM will create a one-stop location for local industry clusters to access programs and individual talents. President DiPasquale indicates “Clinton is very excited to move forward.”

 As part of its collaboration with CCC and others in the Plattsburgh community, Clarkson currently is highly engaged with the greater North Country businesses and industry on a number of fronts including activities through Governor Cuomo’s Innovation Hot Spot initiative and through partnerships with the North Country Chamber and the CITEC Offices.
