Instructor: Carl Jardine P.E., Upstate Power 
Systems Engineering, PLLC
	Carl Jardine has a Bachelor of Science in 
Electrical Engineering from the University of New 
Brunswick and is a member of the Association of 
Professional Engineers of Ontario.
	Mr. Jardine is a Senior Managing Project 
Engineer with the firm of Upstate Power Systems 
and Engineering, PLLC. Mr. Jardine role within 
the organization is developing Arc Flash training 
programs, Performing Arc Flash Hazard Analysis 
and designing Arc Flash mitigation programs. Mr. 
Jardine is the organizations trainer conducting 
numerous training sessions per year. Mr. Jardine 
has been involved in the field of Arc Flash since 
its introduction into the National Electrical 
Code and since its being addressed and enforced 
by OSHA.
	Mr. Jardine personal experience in the 
field of electrical engineering includes 
positions as a plant electrical project engineer 
in the pulp and paper industry, Senior Electrical 
Project Engineer for a consulting engineering 
firm.
	Our goal at Upstate Power Systems 
Engineering is to provide the information you 
need in order to protect your workers and your 
business against the threat of arc flash. 
	Arc flash is one of the most dangerous 
workplace hazards, causing hundreds of serious 
injuries and fatalities each year and costing 
companies millions in workers compensation and 
damage to equipmentnot to mention OSHA fines and 
legal fees. The threat of arc flash has been well-
established, and OSHA, through improved safety 
standards, and electrical equipment 
manufacturers, and through improved safety 
devices have addressed and are continuing to 
address this important issue.
	You should attend this seminar if you are 
required to be trained according to OSHA 
standards, including electrical and electronic 
engineers, electronic equipment assemblers and 
technicians, electricians, industrial machine 
operators, material handling equipment operators, 
mechanics, and all other personnel that may come 
in contact either directly or indirectly with 
electrical equipment.
Course Description:
·	Learn how current OSHA standards apply to 
your facility, including NFPA 70E. 
·	Learn the effects of arc flash and arc 
blast.
·	Understand NPPA 70 E, arc flash labels 
and PPE categories
·	Understand OSHA and penalties for 
noncompliance. 
·	Understand IEEE 1584 and steps to arc 
flash analysis
·	Understand electrical coordination and 
TCCs
·	Review methods to limiting arc flash 
exposure.
·	Review personal protective equipment and 
grouping.
