Instructor: John Olsen, Zeigle Safety Consulting

             John Olsen is a Level 6 Electrical and Instrumentation Technician at Georgia Pacific for the last 28 years. He has also been a union official with the United Steel Workers Union for over 20 yrs. He has developed and implemented safety training in “Lock out / Tag out”, “OSHA Compliance Audits”, “General Electrical Safety”, “Electrical Safe Work Practices”, “ NFPA 70-E”, “Safety Incentive Programs”, “Voluntary Protection Program”, “Union’s Benefits in VPP”, and “Ergonomics” for Georgia Pacific, IBM, Region II of the VPPPA, The national VPPPA Conference, UPIU, USW, and many area businesses and fire departments. John has held positions on the Region II VPPPA board, Safety Officer for local 387 of the USW union, Behavior Safety Facilitator for Georgia Pacific. He also performs training for “ Zeigle Safety” in “General Electrical Safety”, “Electrical Safe Work Practices”, Lock out /Tag out, Hoist and Material Handling Equipment and“ NFPA 70-E” for the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, IBM , Jack Daniels, and many businesses in northern New York. He is a graduate of Beekmantown High School and Clinton Community College.

This extended course will provide individuals information to help reduce the potential for electrically related injuries. It will also provide guidance necessary to assist operations in accomplishing minimum standards for electrical installation and appropriate electrically related safe work practices for all employees. Individuals involved with safety, maintenance, lockout/tagout, electrical and general supervision, will benefit from this course. This class will cover OSHA 29 CFR 1910.331-.335, Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices (Subpart S, General Industry) and NFPA70-E-2000.

Agenda:

  • Review basic theory of electricity & terminology
  • Cover differences between qualified/unqualified employees
  • Review common causes of  accidents
  • Review ways to prevent electrical accidents
  • Review electrical testing  equipment and PPE
  • Review OSHA/NFPA electrical standards
